Taking the complication out of citation...
Plagiarism and collusion are extremely current issues. New technologies are making a definite impact on the world of education with the internet and e-mail being main reasons for concern. Cutting and pasting from an electronic source is all too tempting and referencing such sources can be extremely complicated. Omitting this information is an easy route some students might at times find difficult to resist. Perhaps one of the main reasons for students falling into the trap of plagiarism is simply either a lack of knowledge or sloppy, accidentally poor, referencing. These inadequate referencing skills are found to be the prime reason rather than a deliberate intention to misrepresent original work. The need for an increased awareness amongst such students and the demand for resources to teach good practice has prompted Northumbria Learning to develop a new product range called 'Document it'.
'Document it' is a suite of tools for recording and managing citations and is designed to help educate in the areas surrounding correct acknowledgment, collusion and plagiarism.
Why choose 'Document it'?
It is Northumbria Learning's belief that institutions should adopt an holistic approach to plagiarism prevention and detection incorporating the consideration of institutional policies and procedures, teaching practice and study skills. Therefore 'Document it' is a range that has been developed to teach students good practice and provides quick and easy help in referencing correctly.
In creating the range, Northumbria Learning held several focus groups. As a result, the products are student focused, with a view to being clear and straightforward as well as being accessible and easy-to-use.
The process of citing correctly is made a lot less complicated, as well as providing the student with an insight into appropriate academic practice.
'Document it's range includes:
- 'Document it' for Word™
- 'Document it' 'Cite them Right'
- 'Document it' Citation Record
