Napier University
"Napier University subscribed to Turnitin UK in September of the academic year 2005/2006 and currently 10% of academic staff are enrolled as users on it. The service was originally met with substantial scepticism and concern, reasons for which ranging from data protection issues to training implications for staff and potential misuse by students. Hands-on workshops at which the misconceptions about the service were addressed and the educative features, such as Peer Review and Revision Assignment or Grade Mark tool were highlighted and have reassured staff of the usefulness of the service not just merely to detect plagiarism.
In turn, staff feel increasingly confident to use Turnitin UK as a preventative tool with their students and have begun to recognise its implications for learning, teaching and assessment overall. Turnitin UK has undeniably become an important element alongside a range of measures implemented at the University to address plagiarism, engaging more and more academics in discussion about a problem for which there is no easy solution."
