ANGEL Learning
Accessibility & Standards
Accessibility is not an afterthought in ANGEL. The LMS has been developed from the ground up to be accessible to users with disabilities as a function of internal policy. ANGEL accessibility features go beyond simple compliance with Rehabilitation Act Section 508.
ACCESSIBILITY FEATURES
- interface is designed to be friendly to screen reader applications while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing look for non-impaired users.
- extensively uses Cascading Style Sheets to keep pages easy for screen readers to parse.
- theme editor automatically creates aural style sheets.
Adaptable Interface Design
The ANGEL interface is designed so visually impaired users can easily navigate. ANGEL tables are checked to ensure they make sense when linearised. ANGEL provides alternate text for its graphical icons so screen readers can describe these elements. Context menus under ANGEL items allow information to be read in the appropriate order, so it is easier for the user to take action.
Cascading Style Sheets
The custom classes ANGEL uses to define logical styles for the pages it generates benefit users with disabilities. Each custom Cascading Style Sheet class represents a specific type of content. ANGEL has a class for the page title, a class for descriptive text, a class for section headings, and so on. Because these classes represent specific types of content, ANGEL can easily include aural information in its style sheets.
Aural Style Sheets
ANGEL's aural style sheets provide the information accessible browsers need to allow them to change voices when reading different types of text. This provides auditory cues to help the listener understand the context of the information they are hearing.
Theme Editor
With ANGEL's theme editor you can bring up any theme, copy over all existing settings, and change what you want to change. The theme editor automatically includes aural style sheet information for the new themes users create.
Standards
Standards Compliance
Making the conceptual a practical reality is a driving force behind ANGEL Learning development of ANGEL. ANGEL Learning has demonstrated commitment to interoperability standards as they have emerged and is recognised for many course management system firsts. Customer-driven technology innovation will continue to be a driving force as we develop ANGEL.
ADL SCORM Certification
The Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative is a collaborative effort among government, industry, and academia to establish a new distributed learning environment that permits interoperability of learning tools and course content on a global scale. The Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) is an outcome of the ADL initiative. The SCORM defines the interrelationships of course components, data model, and protocols so learning content objects are sharable across systems that conform to the model.
